Project about London

1. National Gallery, Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, Picadilly Circus, Oxford Street, Regent Street.

2. St. Paul's Cathedral, Tower of London, Tower Bridge, River Thames.

3. Big Ben, Houses of Parliament, London Eye, Westminster Abbey.

4. Natural History Museum, Harrods, Kesington Palace, Hyde Park.

5. Madame Tussaud's, British Museum, Telecom Tower, Covent Garden.

LEISCESTER SQUARE

Leiscester Square is a pedestrianised square within the city of Westminster. It is between Piccadilly Circus and Covent Garden, and at the north of Trafalgar Square.

It was developed in the XVII century.

In the middle of the Square, there is a small park. In the centre of this park there is a statue of William Shakespeare surrounded by dolphins.
Each corner gate of the park has got one bust ( Sir Isaac Newton, the scientist; Sir Joshua Reynolds, the first President of the Royal Academy; John Hunter, a pioneer of surgery; and William Hogarth, the painter).
The most recent addition is a statue of Charlie Chaplin.
On the pavement are inscribed the distances in miles to countries of the former British Empire.

In Leicester Square there are a lot of cinemas (it is the centre of London's cinema land). It contains the cinema with the largest screen and the cinema with the most seats (over 1600).
The Square has got several nightclubs, making it often very busy, particularly on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Activity about England and London

  1. Where's England?
  2. Locate England in your map.
  3. Draw its flag.
  4. What can you see in its coat of arms?
  5. What's the name of England's capital city?
  6. What's the name of its queen?

  1. Locate London in your map.
  2. What can you see in its coat of arms?
  3. Is it only the capital city of England?
  4. What's the name of the more important river in London?
